Alphawave Semi: Poised for Disruptive Growth

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) era has kicked off a race for AI supremacy amongst a growing number of the largest data center operators, demonstrated by an acceleration of broad scale development of AI integration across enterprises and the resulting exponential increase in demand on data center infrastructure required to power the training and inference computing demanded by AI. The opportunities being realized by AI, and the premise of future applications coupled with the promise of other applications/opportunities/XYZ yet to be discovered, has unleashed a data growth acceleration by 50% in 2024 alone.[1] Large language models offer an opportunity to train AI algorithms to perform a wider array of tasks for us, and the datasets of which they are founded on have expanded beyond data collection of the internet age, with instances such as researchers converting and contributing magnetic tape drive data sets from WW2, to iterate and polish LLM reasoning. While text driven auto-pilots are the latest advancement capturing our collective attention, advances across arenas as wide-ranging as video analytics, image recognition, and audio creation are delivering core tools that will transform industries, reshape how we work and communicate, and deliver new efficiency and opportunity for societal advancement.

The underpinnings of these powerful AI agents and tools require massive training clusters, driven by heterogeneous compute platforms and interconnected with high-speed fabric technologies. These clusters require high-bandwidth parallel compute intensity akin to the high-performance computing platforms deployed, traditionally, by government researchers and scientific institutions. Their performance requirements demand accelerated innovation from the industry across compute silicon, memory topologies, and connectivity fabrics; Open AI estimates that the compute demand for AI training has doubled every 3-4 months since 2012, seven times the speed of Moore’s Law, and shows no signs of abating.[2]
