Alphawave’s CTO, Tony Chan Carusone, continues his technical talks on high-speed communications discussing the relevant standards that govern chip to chip links, such as IEEE 802.3 (Ethernet) and OIF CEI (optical interconnect forum, common electrical interface). Standards simplify the system by ensuring all parts are running at the same rate, and under the same defined signal quality. This is especially critical as the industry makes the jump from 100Gbps to 200Gbps transmission over one link.
